The main salon is an area where a lot of activity occurs. It's the place where everyone gathers to be together, where the new videos are screened, and meals occur. It is a room that comes alive on cold winter nights while the heater boils the kettle, or when one of the musicians on board gets out of control. In strange ports, it becomes the receiving room for guests. And when fierce weather rages, it becomes a place of refuge.
The Main Salon is big enough to carry a load of lumber or import several antique motorcycles. Big freezers full of fish are just as easily accommodated. Although... we try to keep it clear for our most important cargo: brains (and the bodies that carry them around).
Some of the tools (and distractions) you can expect to find here, unless an unusual tour has required them to be stripped out and left ashore, consist of the following:
The Library - A current list of resources and basic reference materials dealing with all of the marine sciences. Books offering tips on mutiny, deserted island behavior, locating buried treasure, and the successful boarding of ghost ships are available as well.
The Video Deck - This is an area in which you will learn to edit videos of the activities on board - and every crew member must become skilled at editing. Other than our own projects, we also like to watch a film together on Saturday night - the most anticipated event of the week.
The Game Box - Playing cards, chess and backgammon are a few of the more popular activities pulled from the game box. All hands are required to know at least one card trick. Fortune telling is permitted only in port and made fast to the quay wall.
