Scientific Charters is happy to announce the selection of a new
crew member to the ranks, Anthropologist Brandon Burton. He will
be joining the rest of the crew on March 24th for their upcoming
mission to the axis of the Gulf Stream.
Brandon's
qualifications go well beyond his degree in Anthropology, Brandon
was a navy corpsman and served as combat medic with the U.S. Marines.
A scuba diver who also studies the art of breath-hold diving,
he can hold his breath for 6 minutes, and has descended to 200
ft on a single breath of air. His study of the ancient spice trade
routes complements his interest in cuisine. He is also fascinated
by medical quackery (including the illusion and sleight of hand
involved in many shamanistic medical procedures, which Brandon
imitates convincingly in a demonstration by pulling a "tumor"
out of a live "patient" with his bare hands). A Black
Belt in Kuikido, he avidly practices Brazilian JiuJitsu and Muay
Thai kick-boxeng, Brandon has also found some free time to marry
his wife Sonita and enjoys raising their 2 children in suburban
Chicago.
"Finding
Brandon out of the many applicants, and then confirming his pedigree
took some time. Now the crew get the chance to test him out in
real life, and see how he stacks up as deck swabby and dishwasher,
the traditional position on board for a newby on their first mission"
says Ken Hayes of Aqua Survey, Discoverers scientific sponsor.
